Philanthropy

If you have been involved in nonprofit work, or have experience working for charities, or if you have simply been some type of volunteer, you know the wide array of diversity present within philanthropy. There are different races, ethnicities, genders and ages that come through the door of every service organization. Diversity exists everywhere.

Mary Ellen Capek and Molly Mead co-author Effective Philanthropy. This book talks about overcoming the challenges of diversity and gender differences within a philanthropic organization.

The term effective philanthropy is used to describe the charities organizational goals.
To summarize, they think that nonprofits would prosper more if they integrated diversity into their over-all goal for the program.

Their plan is genius. So many times do nonprofits fail because they are to narrow-minded. They make no room for change. If they opened up their eyes, they would see the diversity of people and issues that need to be helped.

They also talk about how making programs "universal" (AKA coed) would help the efficiency. This assumption was proved false. They found that gender specific organizations had happier participants and earned more donations that universal foundations.
